Founded by Senior Grand Master Ed Parker, American Kenpo is a modern self-defense combat system based on street fighting that applies logic, practicality and an understanding of motion and reactions. Kenpo uses quick and powerful strikes delivered from all of the body's natural weapons, powered by rapid stance transitions and body mechanics. Students are taught using a combination of basic drills, sparring, kata and scripted self defense scenarios, which allow students a platform to practice and train concepts and principles Ed Parker emphasized in his teachings.
The purpose of training is to increase physical coordination and continuity with linear and circular motion. Each movement, when correctly executed, leads into the next, keeping an adversary in check, while limiting their ability to retaliate. A skilled Kenpo practitioner understands motion, action, reaction. They understand the rules and principles that make the foundation of Kenpo.
